Sharing insights from notable legacies
Carla is the Director of Marketing & Communications at the Georg & Agathe Foundation, and most recently held the same role for Eileen Rockefeller. A seasoned marketing and communications professional, she has spent over a decade building brands in multiple industries: CPG, luxury goods, real estate, healthcare, apparel & accessories, action sports, social change, talent management, philanthropy, and the nonprofit space.
Her roles meld her professional interest in helping support authentic and valuable brand messaging, with her personal passion of helping individuals, families, and organizations, navigate the complexities of ‘legacy’ and discover the resources that can help them make a difference. It was this same passion that informed her Co-Founding role at Celebrity Legacy.
Carla understands first-hand the dynamics ‘legacy’ brings into one’s life, as she directly descends from multiple historic legacies. She is a great-granddaughter of Baron Captain Georg von Trapp and his second wife, Baroness Maria Augusta von Trapp, whose family’s life story inspired the world-renowned musical, The Sound of Music. Carla is a granddaughter of Baroness Eleonore von Trapp of the Trapp Family Singers. She is a member of the Hazard family of Rhode Island— prominent industrialists, philanthropists, and activists. She also descends from six of the Mayflower passengers, and other notable early European settlers of America.
As a chain is only as strong as each of its links, Carla believes that honoring the principles and traditions of the past, while encouraging each person to individuate and self-actualize, can lead to an empowered life and collective success.
Utilizing her extensive experience, her consulting work focuses on four area of capital development: human, intellectual, social, and spiritual. All of which are leveraged towards helping individuals, families, and organizations, co-create the conditions where they have the greatest opportunity to flourish.
Vehicles like philanthropy can bring all of these elements together; helping families and organizations identify shared values that transcend generations, celebrate common heritage, model healthy stewardship of resources, and collaborate to the benefit of our communities.
Carla speaks internationally, sharing the lessons on legacy that she has learned from her own family, as well as insights gleaned through research and advising other legacies.
Carla sits on the board of trustees at North Country School and volunteers for St. Lawrence University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts. She holds a 'Giving with Purpose’ certificate from the Buffett family's Learning By Giving Foundation and is a member of The National Society of Colonial Dames of America (NSCDA).
An avid skier and wilderness lover, Carla can be found playing outside as much as possible during her free time.
